Paying units calculation (How to calculate the paying unit or the chargeable weight)

For any shipment – by land, sea, air and rail – which is not carried out with full loads (full container, truck or wagon) a different system for the calculation of the paying units is used, i.e. of the basis for the calculation of the transport rate (freight).

Sea shipping

W/M rate: the freight is applied on the W (weight) calculated in metric tons (1.000 kg) or on the M volume (measurement) calculated in cubic meters (CBM). The highest parameter in favor of the shipping company is applied.

W rate: in some cases the freight is calculated only on weight (W).

ML rate: for the shipment of vehicles on RO-RO vessels, sometimes a rate per linear meter is applied.

Air Shipping

LThe rate is calculated on weight (Kg), with a maximum weight-measurement ratio of 1.000 Kg : 6 CBM; if the goods volume exceeds such 1:6 ratio, the paying unit is obtained by dividing the volume by 6.

Land shipping

The rate is calculated in quintals (100 Kg), with a maximum weight-measurement ratio of 100 Kg : 3 CBM; if the goods volume exceeds such 1:3 ratio, the paying unit is obtained by dividing the volume by 3.

La tariffa viene calcolata sul peso ma varia secondo le caratteristiche della merce.
